Laci Kay Somers is a Singer, Actress, and Instagram Model with more than 8 million followers. She has been featured in many publications, like Playboy and GlamRock Magazine. She was also a featured model for MMA Strikeforce. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with family, as well as her boxer puppy named Boss. How did your career launch?
Istarted my career in MMA as a ring girl for the Cesar Gracie, Nick and Nate Diaz, and Gilbert Melendez. It was there that I networked and made connections with Playboy. Once I made connections with Playboy, I started attending parties at the mansion and networking there as well. I’ve built some solid relationships over the years, and I’ve always done things the right way, which is why I get respected in my industrybecause I didn’t take the easy way out.
What is it like being an Instagram Model?
It’s fun, but it’s a lot more work than people think. I consider myself a full-time influencerbecause I’m constantly influencing people and showcasing my personal life on a daily basis. Scheduling photo and video shoots are a lot of fun, but the “IG Model” life isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. There are so many fake people out there who want to be around you because you’re “social media famous.” It’s difficult to find real people who are genuine and have good intentions. I keep a really tight circle these days and don’t let many people into my personal life.
You’re also a singer. Tell us a little bit about that.
I started singing when I was young. I sang the National Anthem at a Nascar Race in North Carolina when I was 17, that was when I really started to get into it. I also tried out for American Idol as well. I had to get a unanimous “YES” from 4 judges before I saw the main judges on TV. I got 3 “YES” votes from three male judges, but the female judge I could tell didn’t like me for some reason. I have no idea why but she gave me a “NO” and that was the end of that. Now, I record my own music and do covers, I’m currently working on an album that’s due out end of this year! I’m doing some pop music mixed with EDM and R&B- it’s a lot of fun, so many projects coming out. I’m also from the Bay Area and I’ve worked with some major artists and producers from that area.
What is it like being a Playboy Personal Trainer? What are their workouts like?
I got my personal training certificate and became a specialist in fitness nutrition right out of high school. Fitness is something I’ve just always loved to be a part of because I love feeling healthy and being healthy, and on top of that I love helping other people reach their goals. My workouts are intense and I do a lot of HIIT cardio to get my blood pumpin’ and my sweat on. After that, I end with some weight training and abs.
Give us a rundown of a day in your life.
My life is pretty chill. I wake up with my dogs every morning super early and take them out and feed them, they are my life haha! Then I get to emails, make sure that my personal website is running and all orders are taken care of. After that, I work on creating new content for my social media platforms, which could be a photo shoot, workout video, cooking video, gaming video, or a lifestyle video. Creating content that is actually GOOD is the hardest part of being an influencer, people may think that I just post pictures of myself for a living, but there’s a method to my madness and a strategy to everything that I do. I’m always coming up with new ways to innovate and change the way people see me so I don’t just look like another blonde with big boobs.
I have a huge personality and I love showing people that side of me, being REAL and connecting with my fans is what I love doing. I also workout a lot, I have a gym where I live and staying in shape is key. I really don’t go out at all, I like staying inside with my dogs and just kickin’ it and engaging with my fans. I started a Patreon account recently and it BLEW UP, and it takes up so much of my time. Patreon is a fan funding website that is awesome because my fans subscribe to me monthly and receive special content that is exclusive and they can also talk to me one on one every day. It’s legit but it’s a full-time job. I also travel a lot, and my days are never really the same. If I’m not at home, I’m in the music studio working on my album or on a beach somewhere.
What does your personal diet and workouts consist of?
I actually eat super healthy. I don’t eat a lot of meat. My breakfast is usually egg whites, potatoes, and veggies. For lunch, I usually do a tofu stir fry or a spring mix salad. I’m one of those people that can eat the same thing everyday and not get bored haha! For dinner, I love making tacos, spaghetti, or the occasional turkey and chicken.
There were rumors that you were seeing Tiger Woods. Can you clear those up?
I have never met Tiger in person, never spoken to him over the phone, and have never had any interaction with him over any devices whatsoever including social media (IG and Facebook). We don’t know each other. I have a YouTube video about this soon, so stay tuned for that on my channel.
How are you able to deal with all the haters?
Honestly, haters make me laugh. I don’t give them the attention they ask for and that’s how I deal with it. I think it’s hilarious when someone comes on my social media and calls me names and they know nothing about me. I’m like “You would never say this to my face, and if you did you’d get slapped.” I actually did a YouTube video where I talked trash back to my haters. That’s on my channel, it’s funny.
Do you have a favorite quote?
“Comparison is the thief of all joy,” and “Real recognizes real.”
What is your advice to aspiring models?
Be different, and always be creating new content. So many of these girls think that just posting bikini pics or slu*tty pics on social media will help you grow, it won’t. You have to get people to actually like you to monetize your platform. Once people like you and understand you and your personality, they are more likely to support you.Don’t do what everyone else is doing, just do you.
